The Mentone Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6520 South Ind. 19, Mentone, around 11:04 p.m. Saturday night. Mentone Fire Chief Mike Yazel said the fire started in the bedroom of the home that belongs to Ron Batton. Yazel said the fire was contained to the bedroom, but the smoke caused a lot of damage to the rest of the home. He estimated the total damage at $40,000. There was a full assist from the Burket Fire Department and a tanker from Akron Fire Department. With an assist of about 35 men, they were on the scene until around 4 a.m. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
