At Wednesday’s virtual meeting, the North Manchester Town Council heard a request for $6,150 for the Learn More Center, approved end-of-year check write-offs and passed a resolution extending use of paid sick leave for town employees.
Cynthia Johnson represented the Learn More Center and made the request. The institution, providing high school equivalency scholarships and job training, has locations in North Manchester and Wabash.
If awarded, the funds will improve the center’s community outreach efforts and “go toward removing barriers for students” who lack technology or transportation, Johnson said.
Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford detailed a list of outstanding checks. The council voted to write off the checks; the amounts will be reallocated to their original funds.
The council also voted to approve a temporary policy resolution, allowing town employees until June to use whatever remains of their 2020 emergency paid sick leave. The council will revisit the policy in June to determine if another extension is needed.
Town Manager Adam Penrod submitted two grants this month for road improvement funding. Penrod said if the town receives the grants, which total over $500,000, the money will go toward more sidewalk projects.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. March 3 on Zoom.
