NORTH WEBSTER – Long before becoming The North Webster Community Center, the building served as the original North Webster high school, middle school and an elementary school.
Many residents of the North Webster community have memories of their time spent there either as students or teachers. One of these people was Gladys Culver. Culver taught there for 42 years before retiring and then substitute teaching for an additional 12 years.
According to a news release from NWCC, “She touched the lives of so many people. She remembered her students long after they left her classroom, but she also remembered the building where she spent so much of her time.”
After the building was closed as a school and re-opened with its new purpose, Culver spent time at the NWCC, sharing her time and talents in the Senior Primelife Enrichment Center. To the delight of many visitors to the center, Culver often played the piano or organ while visiting SPEC.
“Gladys lived an amazing life and we are grateful that she was a ‘Friend of the Center’ and always supported us in our effort to have a place in the community that had something for everyone. We want to thank the Gladys M. Culver trust for the generous charitable donation that we recently received. We are always grateful to our supporters for helping to ‘keep the lights on,’” the release states.
