NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Town Council approved applying for an grant for a proposed trail, pending on funding for a supplement for the application.
Beth Johnson, business development representative for USI Consultants, said she believes in 2020 USI did a feasibility study for a trail from the northern town limits of North Webster to Wawasee Middle School. Now, USI is helping getting grant assistance to get the project started and built.
Johnson said there is an 80/20 Indiana Department of Transportation grant with a Dec. 2 deadline.
There is a $5,000 supplement fee to help assist the town in getting the grant submitted so the town could be eligible to be considered for the grant, she said. The only thing USI would be charging for, in regards to the supplement, would be updating the fees in the grant application.
Councilman Dave Waliczek asked if the supplement would go over $5,000. Johnson said no, the $5,000 would be the worst-case scenario. Her guess was it would be closer to $1,000 or $1,500.
Waliczek said the Council would like to get the project going if they could, but they’d have to figure out where the money was coming from.
Town attorney Jack Birch said he doesn’t think Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce, who was not at the meeting, didn’t have anything appropriated for the supplement.
Council President Dan Thystrup said another grant the town has applied for can be used for the supplement if the Council asks for that grant to be used for that.
Councilwoman Lisa Strombeck said Luce would need something in writing stating that.
Thystrup said he could talk to Luce Wednesday about where the money would come from.
In other business, the Council learned:
• Leaf pickup will continue until Dec. 1.
• The drain by Lake Lube Auto Repair is to have work done. On Friday, there will be excavation work and concrete will be poured Monday.
• The Christmas lights and banners were put up
