The Notre Dame football team traded their football cleats for bowling shoes for a good cause. An event was held Sunday to inspire the rare disease community with hope through the power of sport.
The event was held at the Strike & Spares Event Center in Mishawaka for the fourth consecutive year by the Notre Dame Chapter of Uplifting Athletics, according to WNDU.
“This is a great opportunity for the kids to come out to enjoy the players and to get to know them, to speak one-on-one with them, to see their competitive side and to have fun,” said Elizabeth Carris, whose son attended the event. “It’s not a day where he has to worry about being sick or hospital dates or anything like that, it’s just a day for fun and it’s great that they can do this for the kids.”
The event is just one of many that the football team is participating in this summer. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush tells WNDU that it helps them spend time with the community, but it also serves as a team-building exercise.
Fall camp is slated to begin in August for the Irish. Their first game of the season is September 2 against Temple at Notre Dame Stadium.
