NORTH MANCHESTER — A North Manchester woman was killed Friday in a multiple-vehicle crash southwest of North Manchester in Wabash County.
At about 12:45 p.m. Friday, Wabash Central Dispatch received several 911 calls regarding a crash involving multiple vehicles on Ind. 13 at the intersection of CR 1100N, according to a Wabash County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The preliminary investigation established that a full-sized pickup, traveling south on Ind. 13, was stopped at the intersection of CR 1100N, waiting for northbound traffic to clear the intersection, so that it could make a left (eastbound) turn onto CR 1100N. The pickup successfully turned east and was not involved in the collision.
Gregory Smith, operating vehicle 5, was traveling south on Ind. 13 and was slowing/stopped behind the full-sized pickup, the release states.
Drivers included:
Katherine McBride, operating vehicle 4, was traveling south on Ind. 13 and was slowing/stopped behind vehicle 5.
Jon Anderson, operating vehicle 3, was traveling south on Ind. 13 and was slowing/stopped behind vehicle 4.
Erica Mabery, operating vehicle 2, was traveling south on Ind. 13 and was slowing/stopped behind vehicle 3.
Brock Casper, operating vehicle 1, was traveling south on Ind. 13, approaching the intersection of CR 1100N.
Casper hit the rear of Mabery’s vehicle, resulting in a chain reaction crash involving vehicles 3, 4, 5 and 6. Vehicle 6 was facing west on CR 1100N, waiting to make a turn onto Ind. 13.
Mabery was severely injured during the crash and taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She later was declared dead.
No other serious injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation, the release states.
