The Indianapolis Fire Department says one kayaker has died and one remains hospitalized after being rescued from the White River in Indianapolis.
48-year-old Lawrance Morrissey of Fishers died Sunday after he and another kayaker became stuck in the churning water near the Broad Ripple dam on the city’s north side. Morrissey was unconscious and given CPR after he surfaced in the river near a rescue boat.
The condition of the other kayaker has improved after he was initially reported in critical but stable condition.
The strength of the rushing water pulled life vests off both men. High and fast-moving water was reported following recent heavy rains.
