WARSAW — A pedestrian walking along US 30 near Parker Street in Warsaw was struck and killed around midnight Saturday.
Police believe a 2012 Dodge Journey, operated by McCoy Lucas, was traveling in the right-hand eastbound lane of 30, east of the intersection, when he observed a pedestrian, identified as Hector Hinojosa, walking in the travel lane, according to a news release from Warsaw Police Department.
Lucas told police that he attempted to avoid striking Hinojosa but was
unable to do so.
The accident happened shortly after midnight.
Hinojosa sustained significant injuries. Lutheran EMS transported him to a Fort Wayne hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Team was requested for a crash reconstruction and the investigation remains ongoing.
No other details were immediately available.
