A Warsaw woman was injured when she was hit by a train while walking on the tracks Wednesday afternoon.
Martha Sharp, 36, had cuts to her head and was taken by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, according to Warsaw Police Department Det. Ryan Coble.
She was walking north on the Norfolk Southern tracks, about a block north of East Fort Wayne Street in Warsaw. The train that hit her also was northbound.
Coble said several witnesses said the train was sounding its horn continuously, but she did not get off the tracks.
The train hit Sharp’s backside, throwing her from the tracks, around 4:04 p.m. Wednesday.
“It clipped the left side of her body, throwing her off the tracks and not under the train,” he said.
