It turns out premature births are on the decline in the Hoosier State. Indiana State Department of Health officials say the percentage of preterm births in our state have fallen from 10.1 percent in 2009 to 9.6 in 2013, the year with the most recent complete data. Releasing the findings Thursday, State Health CommissionerJerome Adams said preterm births are a leading factor in the number of children who die before their first birthday, and that Indiana needs to continue to work on those numbers. The Indiana State Department of Health says reducing infant mortality is one of its top priorities.
