ELKHART – Special Prosecutor Nelson Chipman says he is close to a plea deal with one of the men charged in connection with a case involving Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
“I am confident a plea agreement is forthcoming between the state and Kevin Bronson,” Chipman wrote in the documents. Jan. 26 is the current deadline for a plea agreement.
Bronson was indicted with Rovenstine and former Grace College professor Mark Soto in February. Soto is scheduled to face a joint jury trial with Bronson in April in Elkhart Superior Court I.
Rovenstine is accused of granting special privileges to Soto and Bronson while Bronson was incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail. Rovenstine’s trial on 10 felony charges, including intimidation, official misconduct and bribery also is scheduled in February.
Bronson faces three felony corrupt business influence charges and seven felony charges of intimidation.
Prosecutors allege Bronson and Soto threatened people in order to raise money for a movie Bronson said was going be made about his conversion to Christianity.
