A spokesman for St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne says old data was used to issue a failing grade in a hospital safety report. The Leapfrog Group game St. Joe an overall grade of “F”, which is down from three straight “D’s” over the last 18 months. St. Joe was the only Hoosier hospital and one of only 17 out of 2,600 around the country to get failing marks. According to the Journal Gazette, Lutheran’s grade moved up to “C”, DuPont got a “B” and Parkview Regional received an “A” for the 11th straight rating period. Ratings come out twice a year. Ratings are based on preventable errors, injuries and infections that occur while patients are at the hospital and things like bed sores. A spokesman for the hospital says they were surprised by the low rating given changes they had made based on previous poor grades. Closer to home, Warsaw’s Kosciusko Community Hospital received a “C”, as did IU-Goshen.
