ITT Tech students in South Bend and other campuses are now without a school.
Federal sanctions against the for-profit school are forcing the nationwide technical school to close, according to Gizmodo.
In a statement, ITT Tech says the U.S. Department of Education has “complete disregard” for “due process” and that “hundreds of thousands” of current students, alumni, and employees are being affected.
At issue is a federal crackdown on for-profit colleges. ITT Tech and other for-profit colleges have been criticized publicly for taking in billions of dollars in government grants and loans and not providing adequate job training in return.
The Carmel, Indiana-based company has been in operation for over 50 years. It stopped enrolling students last week following the ruling by the U.S. Department of Education.
It’s unknown whether current students at ITT Tech in South Bend and other campuses can complete their degree elsewhere. The U.S. Department of Education has set up a blog postwith answers to some questions students may have.
