Indiana Excise Police are known for breaking up parties involving underage drinkers, but recently in Bloomington they told a retirement community it could no longer serve beer and wine to residents during its weekly social hour. The Meadowood Retirement Community stopped the practice last month. Officials there then told administrators the same at another assisted living center, which also stopped its practice of serving wine at social hours. Excise police say facilities that want to serve alcohol must obtain a license. Meadowood administrator Larry Diersing says he doesn't know how the facility's social hour was reported. Excise police division relies on tips or complaints from individuals and investigates every tip.
