MARION COUNTY — A section of U.S. 52 has been renamed in honor of fallen Indy Metro Police Officer Breann Leath.
Leath was killed in the line of duty in April of 2020. She had been responding to a domestic incident, when she was shot and killed by Elliahs Dorsey.
Earlier this year, Dorsey was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, with another 15 years suspended. While he was found to be guilty, it was also determined that he had a history of mental health issues.
To honor the fallen officer’s life and legacy, the section of 52 between Davis and German Church roads is now the “Officer Breann Leath Memorial Mile.”
INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith says, “It is an honor for INDOT to pay tribute to a fellow public servant who tragically lost her life while serving and protecting the people of Marion County.”
