The trial of Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine, scheduled to begin today, was continued in Kosciusko Circuit Court earlier this morning. Rovenstine’s lawyer, James Voyles filed a motion today, just 28 minutes before the trial was set to begin.
Voyles argued that special prosecutor Nelson Chipman did not file for a time extention on July 22 and therefore the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office no longer has jurisdiction to try the case. Last February, Rovenstine was indicted on 10 counts including bribery, intimidation and assisting a criminal.
He is accused of accepting $40,000 in exchange for favors granted to an inmate in his jail. The judge granted the defense 30 days to file an appeal with the state Supreme Court, putting the trial on hold until then.
