RV shipments are off to a slow start this year.
About 80% of all recreational vehicles in the U.S. are made in northern Indiana, and 60% of them come from Elkhart County, but the big driving force of the local economy has struggled so far, with the total January RV shipments to dealers last month falling from more than 42,400 in 2018 to just 25,500 this year.
That’s a 40% drop, according to the RV Industry Association’s manufacturer survey. Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, saw a 41% drop from January 2018 to just over 21,600 units for the month.
