Baby boxes are opening at fire stations in Columbia City and New Haven.
On Sunday, a Safe Haven Baby Box will open at the New Haven Fire Station on Hartzell Road, and on Monday, the Columbia City Fire Station on South Chauncey Street with get a Baby Box. With the new Baby Boxes there will be 23 nationwide. Nineteen of those baby boxes are in Indiana.
The Warsaw Fire Department installed a baby box in September, making it the second one in Kosciusko County.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes let parents surrender newborn babies anonymously. The boxes notify 911 immediately, and are lock as soon as the baby is placed inside. The boxes have heating and cooling features.
