On the same day that Walmart announces pay raises and bonuses for its employees, it quietly announces the closing of three Sam’s Club stores in Indiana.
That includes the location in Goshen, located at 4024 Elkhart Road. The Indy Star reports that the Indiana Department of Workforce Development received notices Thursday that the Goshen Sam’s Club would be closing on Jan. 26…the same day two locations in Indianapolis are also closing.
A total of 419 workers will be losing their jobs as a result, including the 110 that work at the Goshen location. In the notices, Walmart says all affected employees will be given chances to apply for other Walmart or Sam’s Club locations.
Sam’s Club stores in places like upstate New York, Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, and Louisiana are also closing.

All Walmart employees, including those in Fort Wayne, will be getting some benefits from the government’s recent tax cut plan.
Walmart announced plans today to increase the starting wage rate for all hourly associates in the U.S. to $11, expand maternity and parental leave benefits and provide a one-time cash bonus for eligible associates of up to $1,000. The company is also creating a new benefit to assist associates with adoption expenses.
The combined wage and benefit changes will benefit the company’s more than one million U.S. hourly associates. President and CEO Doug McMillon says it’s a direct result of the opportunities Republicans’ tax reform plan has created for the company.
The increase in wages takes effect next month.
