Sara Jane Hoppas, age 72 of Mentone and a long time resident of Fulton and Kosciusko Counties, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 8 p.m. at home in Mentone.
Born in Rochester on January 11, 1951, Sara was the daughter of Albert and Rosie (Downs) McCloughan. She attended school in Rochester.
Sara learned the value of hardwork at an early age. She spent many years working two jobs or long shifts to provide for her family – her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Coworkers might remember her from Creighton Brothers, Busche Manufacturing, 80/20, Crossroads Inn or from several service stations.
More personally, Sara is remembered for her sewing and crafting; she was good at reupholstery, alterations and even made outfits for her children and grandchildren when they were young. She loved time spent with her family and was a very good cook and baker. She was always sure her family had food to eat and treats to share.
Dearly missed by her four children: two daughters, Jenny “Becky” (Randy) Bays of rural Mentone and Ferol (Matt) Hawkins of Kentucky and two sons, Joe (Heather) Holloway of Warsaw and John (Nikki) McCloughan of Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two siblings, John (Bonnie) McCloughan and Gloria Reed. She was preceded in passing by her parents; sister, Alberta (Bob) Keene and brother-in-law, Jim Reed.
Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw is entrusted with care of Sara and her family. Friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Life Celebration will take place at 7 p.m., led by Sara’s family.
