The case of an autistic woman from Warsaw who was murdered almost two years ago remains unsolved.
Sarah Gibbs, 34, was found murdered in her home after a house fire. No one has been arrested for the crime.
On Dec. 19, 2014, police found Gibb’s body while putting out a house fire on Smith Street in Warsaw. Investigators later determined Gibbs was murdered before the fire was set.
Howard Gibbs, her father, said he hopes that someone remembers something about the circumstances.Sarah would frequently visit the library, the old YMCA and shop around Market Street, he said.
Mr. Gibbs said he hopes that by getting the places she would frequent out in the public, somebody will remember an interaction Sarah may have had with another person or that someone saw a suspicious action. According to Mr. Gibbs, even if the interaction seemed insignificant at the time, it could help.
“Whoever did this, did a really job covering their tracks,” he said. “If no one comes forward with new information and no one confesses, it may never get solved.”
Warsaw Police Department detective Ryan Moore said the case has been difficult. “There’s not a lot of violent crime in Warsaw and it’s frustrating that this case has gone unsolved for so long,” he said.
He said so far nothing has come from the TIP line of the Crime Stoppers website. “There’s just not enough evidence to place anyone at the scene,” Moore said.
According to the Michiana Crime Stoppers website, a $10,000 reward still stands for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Howard said his family has been devastated by the murder and that the case hasn’t been solved.
A Facebook page called Justice for Sarah Gibbs has been created to help the community solve the case.
