Sgt. Joe L. Rose, 81, of Claypool, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Kosciusko Community Hospital Monday morning, October 4, 2021. Joe was a decorated veteran who honorably served with the 101st Airborne Rangers Army Division, The Screaming Eagles, Special Air Assault Operations in The Viet Nam War.
Joe was born on March 23rd, 1940, in Prestonsburg, KY to his parents Bob and Lizzie (Campbell) Rose. He married the love of his life, Deloris (Wallen) Rose, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years before she preceded him in death on October 12th, 2014.
Joe retired from RR Donnelley & Sons after 41-years. Joe was past Commander and Chaplin of the American Legion, Post #258, Pierceton, IN, and a member of the V.F.W., Post #1126, Warsaw, IN, past member of The American Legion Riders and The Indiana Patriot Guard Riders. He had many hobbies, including shuffleboard, hunting, fishing, target shooting, and riding his Harley Davidson. He loved his wife, his family, his country, his brothers-in-arms, and his many friends, who knew him lovingly as “Papa Joe.”
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Lizzie (Campbell) Rose, and his siblings, John Rose, Wesley (Shirley) Rose, Howard (Velma) Rose, Robert (Evaline) Rose, Willie Jane (Emerson) Allen, Nora (Randell) Goble, Liddie (Roy) Burkhart.
Joe is survived by his five children, Kimberly (Michael) Whitaker, Debra (Douglas) Drudge , Joe Rose, Jr., Lisa (Christopher) Pett, Lori (Bret) Stanger, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and his sister Kate (Solomon) Burkhart.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday October 8, 2021, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Ct. Warsaw. A memorial service in celebration of his life will begin at 12:00 Noon in the funeral chapel. Chaplain Glenn Hall will officiate. Military Honors rendered by the American Legion Post #258 and VFW Post #1126. Private interment will follow at a later date.
Masks are optional, and social distancing is encouraged. No food is permitted at this time.
