A Leesburg man is behind bars after allegedly spending his elderly mother’s money on personal items for himself, rather than pay her rehabilitation bills.
Jonathan C. Davis, 60, of 47 EMS T7B Lane, Leesburg, was arrested Friday, December 2, on charges of exploitation of an endangered adult and theft, both level 6 felonies.
According to charging documents, on April 29, Indiana State Trooper Kyle Hudson met with an Adult Protective Services employee who advised Davis is the power of attorney for his mother and has control of her finances.
Ms. Davis has been in the Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center since November 18, 2014. Jonathan Davis had been making small payments of $200-$300 payments since 2014, and made his last payment on February 26 of this year. Their bill at this time was $45,772.50.
Trooper Hudson found that Ms. Davis receives Social Security and a pension which Jonathan Davis is in charge of.
On May 6, Mason facility administrators, Hudson and Mr. Davis were supposed to meet to discuss payment and continued care for his mother. Mr. Davis did not attend the meeting.
Authorities obtained the bank records of Ms. Davis and discovered that the account was being used to purchase gasoline, spending at casino’s, food while vacationing and more. Between January 2016 through May 2016 the account was used to purchase personal items for Jonathan Davis totaling $12,579.65.
Davis’s bond was set at $5,250.
