With Veterans Day approaching, the local Goodwill branch is teaming with United Way to offer a Veteran Stand Down event in Warsaw.
Goodwill Vice President of Mission Advancement Guy Fisher tells News Now Warsaw that a “stand down” is a time of respite for veterans and their families.
“The whole idea behind the Stand Down is that we can bring services to a central location, whether it’s folks looking for work, whether it’s folks looking to have paperwork that needs to be completed with VA or social security, or whatever the case may be, so that we’re all there to help.”
The event in support of Indiana’s veterans will be held at Center Lake Pavilion in Warsaw on Wednesday November 8 from 1-6 p.m. with a free lunch provided to veterans and their family members that attend.
“The Kosciusko County United Way contacted [Goodwill] regarding having a stand down in Warsaw. We had hosted several other stand downs locally and Darren Bickel the folks over at the United Way were just really looking forward to bringing something like that to the county.”
Fisher says veterans can also access educational opportunities, employment assistance, health screenings, housing assistance, legal assistance, and dental assistance at the event.
There will also be $500 worth of giveaways of men’s sleepwear, men’s jerseys, a variety of shoes and boots for men and women, blankets, care kits, and other personal items.
Veterans will need to bring their DD214 or a VA card to be eligible for the services and giveaways.
