A police officer was seriously wounded and a suspect was killed when gunfire erupted as police pursued a man who was damaging property with a backhoe in Huntington.
Indiana State Police say a Huntington police officer was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene early Sunday. Police say the officer and the suspect were both shot in an exchange of gunfire as officers pursued the man as he used a backhoe to damage property about 3:30 a.m.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect at this time. The shooting remains under investigation.
