The third Safe Haven Baby Box in Indiana has been installed in Indianapolis.
The devices allow people to safely and legally drop off newborns they can’t take of, no questions asked.
Before Thursday, there were two baby boxes installed: one at the Woodburn Fire Department in Allen County where the program started and another at the Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department outside of Michigan City.
Two babies have been left in the box at Coolspring Township and are reportedly doing well.
All of the boxes lock the baby inside the temperature-controlled box and come with an alarm system to notify 911.
The Indianapolis-area box will be installed at the Decatur Township Fire Station #74, which is located in Indy’s southwest side.
