A coed soccer team is coming to Tippecanoe Valley Middle School this spring. The board of trustees unanimously approved at an August 14th board meeting a request by TVMS Athletic Director Cory Cooper to get a team established.
Students in sixth through eighth grades will have the opportunity to play soccer against Running Rivers Conference (RRC) schools North Miami, Whitko, Peru, Wabash and Manchester. Cooper said the schools will play a total of 10 games on a home and away schedule.
“I’ve been asking kids over the past year or two of their interest in playing soccer. There was always a large group of kids interested. It wasn’t surprising that there are still that many students that want to play. They are very excited,” said Cooper.
37 students have expressed interest in playing this spring so far. Cooper has been working with the RRC and the head soccer coach at Tippecanoe Valley High School to help develop the middle school soccer team.
“This will work out better for our eighth grade soccer players transferring to the high school because they’ll actually be playing all year long,” said Cooper.
Fifth grade students will be allowed to participate, if numbers permit. The season begins on Monday, March 5, 2018. The first game will take place against North Miami on Monday, April 9.
