Two Airlifted After Crash Near Mentone

KCSD Press Release- Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a head-on crash from Thursday morning that required two drivers to be airlifted from the scene near Mentone.


Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personal were dispatched at 9:51 a.m. to a head-on crash, east of County Road 1000 West on State Road 25.  Responders arrived from Mentone E.M.S. & Fire Department and began extrication of the two drivers, who were both airlifted from the scene by Parkview Samaritan. 

Preliminary scene investigation by the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team determined that a 2000 Mercury, driven by George E. May, 55, Rochester, had travelled across the centerline of State Road 25 and struck a 2004 Volvo driven by Tyler L. Landrum, 17, Mentone. 

Both May and Landrum were airlifted in serious condition to Parkview, Fort Wayne, with various injuries to their lower and upper extremities. 

The crash is still currently under investigation.  The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Mentone Fire Department, Burket Fire Department, Life-Med E.M.S., and the Mentone E.M.S.
