Authorities say two children were rescued from the St. Joseph River in South Bend by people who saw them struggling in the water. Fire Department officials say the children were swimming in the river near the city's downtown Monday evening when they tried to swim back but couldn't fight the current. Battalion Chief Marc Catanzarite tells WSBT-TV that a jogger saw a boy's hand sticking out of the water and was able to pull him out. The rescue happened near where a 25-year-old woman fell into the river and died last week.
