The case of two missing children from the Fort Wayne area has now turned into a tragedy.
The Elkhart Police Department says 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez and 6-year-old Rene Pasztor were both dead when they were discovered Monday afternoon.
The two were reported missing Monday morning when they were taken from a home in Churubusco by their non-custodial mother, Amber Pasztor. She was accompanied by 65-year-old Frank Macomber, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
Police in Elkhart located a tan Mercury behind their building matching the description in the Amber Alert at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Indiana State Police called off the Amber Alert about 90 minutes later.
Just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, an officer who was walking out of the Elkhart Police Department on Marion Street, was stopped by Amber Pasztor, who was driving a car matching the vehicle described in the Amber Alert., according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.
Pasztor told the officer there were two deceased subjects inside the vehicle, Snyder stated.
Upon examining the vehicle officers located two deceased juveniles, believed to be Liliana Hernandez and Rene Pasztor, in the backseat of the vehicle. However formal identification of the two juveniles will be done by the Coroner’s Office.
Amber Pasztor was arrested on two preliminary counts of murder. She is being held in the Elkhart County Correctional Facility.
As of late Monday night, Police were still looking for Macomber, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.
Autopsies will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Kalamazoo.
