Tippecanoe Valley Middle School Principal Scott Backus recognized his successful individuals and groups at the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation board meeting Monday night.
The Spotlight on the Valley section of the meeting started with Tristan Neust, eighth-grader, who is the 2016 TVMS and Kosciusko County Script’s Spelling Bee champion. Backus honored conference winning teams, including seventh-grade football and spell bowl. Also honored were the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ basketball teams, 2016 solo and ensemble contest gold medal winners, the 2016 Three Rivers honor band and the 2016 Circle the State choir participants. Backus said that these students and groups demonstrated excellence so far this school year.
In other news, Mallory Eaton, TVMS physical education and health teacher, obtained a grant that would supply a bowling curriculum and equipment. She gathered support from local bowling alleys and her administration
A representative of the swim club spoke to the board and advised that the Tippecanoe Valley pool is in need of better maintenance. She said that several tiles of the pool floor are coming loose and that the starting blocks and diving board are beginning to rust. Superintendent Brett Boggs said that the corporation had just bought a new diving board and that it should be installed soon.
Other items discussed were the Akron Elementary School project, which is on track with the projected schedule, and the approval of the 2015-26 Indiana School Improvement Plans.
