WARSAW — Who says Veterans Day has to be a single-day event?

On Wednesday, Stillwater Hospice organized a salute to veterans at Cedar Creek, a senior living center in Warsaw.

Nine veterans were honored for their military role with certificates and pins.

The veterans were honored by two volunteers — Deb and Mike Bendall — from Stillwater Hospice, who are also veterans.

Deb Bendall, a retired Navy nurse, said she enjoys the chance to honor vets and remarked about the impact of her military experience.

“Being a service member, it was always good,” she said. “It was the best thing Mike and I ever did.”

For Russ Bauer, with the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders, it was his third consecutive day of visiting veterans at nursing homes.

He said he thinks it is important because veterans in those environments are sometimes overlooked.

He also read a poem honoring the role of widows of veterans.
