Earning a Gold rating at Prelims, the Warsaw Community High School Tigers Pride Marching Band qualified to perform at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Scholastic Class Finals. The statewide event was held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis. Thirty-four (34) high school bands participated in the Scholastic Class Finals. Scholastic Class A and Class B are determined by both enrollment and band size.
The WCHS 60 pc marching band began preparing for this coveted State Final performance 14 weeks ago in late July. Teaching marching basics to the freshman class and beginning to learn the music that makes up the Haka Peruperu program. The students were taught fundamentals of marching, playing and working as a unit and running drill sets over and over to maintain equal spacing from set to set. Marching band and color guard students work to reach towards their personal best each and every time they step on the performance field. This Saturday Scholastic Class Finals was no different.
Due to inclement weather the competition was forced inside and the marching bands performed in the gymnasium of Lawrence Central High School, rather than on their football field. All 34 bands performed without props, with limited movement due to space constraints. The competition was fierce but the Tiger Pride shone bright in the LCHS gym. Though the band didn’t place in the top five, the Warsaw Community High School Tigers Pride Marching Band performed eloquently and with fire.
We appreciate the support of our school officials, parents, students and alumni who attended the performance on Saturday. The Tigers Pride was proud to represent Warsaw High School at the State Finals.
This performance concludes the marching band season. Student musicians will now begin preparing for upcoming concerts; Performing Arts Gala on Sunday, Dec 15th at 2:30 p.m. at the PAC (includes dance choir, band orchestra and theatre) and Band Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 17th 7:00 p.m. at the PAC.
Music Boosters will begin raising funds to replace our decade old uniforms with hopes to purchase two 24’ trailers desperately needed to transport large instruments, uniforms and set props for competitions. If you would like to help support the band monetarily, please reach out to Paige Hubner Fundraising Chair 574-453-2113.
