WARSAW — The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club announced the top three winners of the essay contest with the theme “Who is an Everyday Hero That Brings out the Optimist in You?”
All three will be awarded cash prizes at the March 29 meeting, which will be at 7 a.m. at Creighton’s Crazy Egg Cafe.
The winners are Mia Blocher, Teagan Alley and Jasmine McKinley.
The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist also remind students ages 19 and under about the next opportunity for the oratory contest.
Contestants need to let the Optimists know early in the week of March 19 or before to reserve a spot (20 contestants max, first come, first serve). Details for the oratory are below and the application can be found here.
The local Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Oratory Contest will be held in the old courthouse’s courtroom on the second floor at 1 p.m. on March 26.
Applications should be sent to one of the co-directors (Shari Benyousky at sbwritinghelp@gmail.com or to Jeff Owens at mail@jeffowens.net) by March 22.
Other tips:
• The competition includes competitors of all ages and skill levels. It is intended to be a safe space to try out something new. All will be welcomed and applauded.
• There will be two winners with prizes. A winner might decide to go to the next level with more prizes and scholarships. A few years ago we had someone go on to national competition in St. Louis and win $2,000.
• Read the instructions for tips. The speech should only be between 4 to 5 minutes long and the speaker may use notes.
