Warsaw Man Facing Gun Charges After Pursuit

Anthony James Geib

TIMES UNION REPORTS – A Warsaw man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly threw a handgun out of a vehicle during a police pursuit.

Anthony James Geib, 36, of 3311 Oak Pointe Crossing, Warsaw, is charged with resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor; and a sentence enhancement of carrying a handgun without a license, a Level 5 felony.

He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:31 p.m. Aug. 30. His bond was set at $16,250.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday, on Feb. 21 Pierceton police responded to a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival to the area, police observed a black Chevy truck pull out of the driveway, spinning its tires, heading southbound quickly. Police activated emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of South Lake Shore and South Monroe drives, Pierceton.

The vehicle, whose driver was later identified as Geib, disregarded the traffic stop and accelerated to over 60 miles per hour. The truck continued to travel on South Monroe Drive, disregarding the stop sign at CR 600S, turning east on CR 600S.

Geib allegedly disregarded the stop sign at Ind. 13 and CR 600S, continuing to travel east on CR 600S.

Geib disregarded multiple stop signs and, continuing to disregard the emergency lights of police, crossed Ind. 13 and U.S. 30 multiple times, according to court documents.

Geib then pulled into a driveway on East U.S. 30, driving west through the yard, where the vehicle became stuck in the snow, according to court documents.

Geib exited the truck and police gave him verbal commands so they could take him into custody. Police read him his Miranda rights and he agreed to speak with law enforcement.

Geib allegedly stated that the passenger in his car handed him a silver handgun when they saw law enforcement behind them. Geib said he threw the gun out of the window after the first turn into Sellers Lake and agreed to show police where the gun was thrown from the vehicle. Police located the gun in the area with Geib’s direction.

Police talked to the passenger and gave him his Miranda rights. The passenger said the handgun was Geib’s and Geib told him he could not have it when they saw law enforcement was behind them. The passenger also said Geib threw the gun into Sellers Lake.

Geib was convicted of a felony for intimidation on Dec. 19, 2019.
