Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer recognized the life-saving efforts by firefighters in a recent house fire before Tuesday’s Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory board meeting.
The fire that he was referring to was back on July 26th at a home on West Fort Wayne Street. Thallemer credits the hours of training that the firefighters go through and said the response was “quick and professional.”

Thallemer mentioned that he had the chance to speak with the firefighters that went through the experience after viewing video of the efforts. “They saved a gentleman’s life in a very quick, short order. I know there’s a lot more to it. It’s a significant amount of teamwork demonstrated that night.”
Fire crews rescued Steven Mawer from the home’s second floor. He had to be removed through a second story window and taken to the ground by ladder.
