With temperatures soaring and the summer season just beginning, many Warsaw residents want to cool off in our area lakes, but the conditions at Pike Lake and Center Lake are causing concerns.
Specifically, deterioration of the pier at Center Lake included broken cement, which exposes metal edges on the north, south, and west sides, according to the Times Union.
At Pike Lake the diving board is missing.
Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Larry Plummer tells the Times Union that maintenance personnel will take care of needed repairs at Center Lake.
“The pier was looked at by the builder last year and it is in sound condition structurally,” he explains. “We just need to repair the concrete deterioration on the surface.”
When it comes to the Pike Lake diving board, Plummer says it was actually removed previously for safety reasons.
“The water level last year was not sufficient for diving off a board,” he says.
Plummer says that this year’s tremendous rain events have caused the lake level to be high, but when the lake is at a normal level they will measure its depth to determine if it is safe for diving.
