Warsaw School Board Hears About Right Of Way Request

Warsaw Community Schools Tuesday received a right of way acquisition request that will allow for a roundabout on Mariner Drive.
Bill Jones, of Right Of Way Jones, attended Tuesday’s work session to inform the board he will request the school corporation donate land for a right of way at Monday night’s school board meeting.
Jones said the City of Warsaw is requesting the school donate property in front of Harrison Elementary to prepare for a roundabout that will be constructed on Mariner Drive. The donated property will allow the city to remove a sign and a fence in front of Harrison Elementary to allow for the roundabout.
The cost to remove the fence is $22,790, and the cost to remove the sign is $4,000.
“There will be some minor headaches that happen during this because there will be a lot of rerouting of school traffic,” said Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent.
Kevin Scott, finance director, said there will be a request Monday night to purchase $19,649 in Lego® equipment for robots.
Scott informed the board the bonds for the new Lincoln Elementary School have been sold for $30,000,600.
“We’re fortunate to see interest rates that were still lower than what we had estimated, and the result will be a lower tax rate than what was on the referendum question on the ballot,” Scott said.
Dani Barkey, chief accountability officer, informed the board schools are now allowed to select their own formative assesment test vendor.
In the past, the state of Indiana paid for a formative assesment test called Acuity. The state decided not to fund Acuity this year and provided schools with the opportunity to select their own formative assesment vendor. WCS selected Northwest Evaluation Association.
