Warsaw is moving forward with plans to widen and reconstruct Anchorage Road on the city’s north side.
The short east-west road, which connects North Detroit Street and U.S. 30, has become heavily traveled.
City officials hope to widen and reconstruct the road to include turn lanes. Sidewalks are also part of the plan, according to City Planner Jeremy Skinner.
The city is relying on an 80-20 match from the federal government to pay for the project, which is roughly expected to cost about $3 million.
On Friday, the city board of works approved paperwork that will be filed with Indiana Department of Transportation. Afterward, the city will begin working with a firm on engineering plans.
Preliminary engineering costs are expected to be about $384,000.
As part of the project, Skinner said the city is working with INDOT to see if there are improvements to the intersection of Anchorage Road and U.S. 30.
More work is tentatively planned for the road north of U.S. 30 that becomes Biomet Drive. Construction is slated to begin in 2022.
In another matter, the board of works approved a request to use Design Collaborative, Fort Wayne, to prepare schematics for renovating Center Lake Pavilion.
The park board has already approved plans to hire the company.
The work does not involve a proposed open air building that would be constructed near the pavilion, said Mayor Joe Thallemer, a member of the board of works.
Plans to renovate the pavilion will include office space for the park staff. The park office on Canal will eventually be demolished to make room for a redevelopment project that is part of work on North Buffalo Street.
