Searching for a wi-fi or cellphone signal at the Elkhart County 4-H fair was problematic over the weekend when attendance numbers were especially high. According to the Elkhart Truth, the fair expands access points every year to cover most of the property, and all of the buildings have Wi-Fi inside. The system can, however, be overloaded on an average day, and especially on busy days. Another issue for cell service is the metal rides which absorb radio frequencies and weaken the signal even further. The fair board foresees progress next year thanks to planned equipment upgrades with high productivity capability, which would allow for greater range and fewer spotty areas.
