A Winona Lake man was arrested after allegedly getting into a fight with a woman and pointing a gun at her.
Nathanael Allan Arnold, 22, of 1202 Wooster Road, lot 24, Winona Lake, is charged with domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony.
He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:34 p.m. Tuesday on a $5,250 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a Winona Lake Police Department officer responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer saw a man, later identified at Arnold, and a woman punching each other. Arnold saw the officer and began to walk away.
The officer saw Arnold was attempting to conceal something and was able to determine it was a gun. The officer ordered Arnold to drop the gun and Arnold raised the gun and pulled back the slide. The officer gave a second order to drop the gun and Arnold released the magazine and threw the firearm to the ground. Arnold was taken into custody and read his Miranda rights.
The officer spoke to the woman. She said she and Arnold got into an argument, which resulted in her being hit on the left side of her face. The officer saw redness and swelling on the woman’s cheek. The woman said Arnold grabbed the gun as he was running out the residence and pointed it at her one time, according to court documents.
Another officer spoke to a man who witnessed the altercation. The man said Arnold had a gun in his hand and was grabbing the woman and putting her in a headlock.
An officer spoke with Arnold. Arnold said he got into a verbal fight with the woman. During the yelling, the woman allegedly aggressively hugged Arnold. Arnold asked her to stop yelling. The woman continued screaming and punching. That is when Arnold said he “started trading blow for blow” with the woman, according to court documents.
Arnold allegedly admitted to dragging the woman to the ground, trading punches with the woman and grabbing the gun.
When asked if he had pointed the gun at the woman, he shook his head yes. When asked if Arnold planned on shooting the woman, Arnold said no, if anything he was going to bludgeon the woman with it. The firearm was confiscated.
