An Indianapolis woman is behind bars after police say she abandoned her newborn baby in a trash can. The baby was found Friday night in a trash can at a warehouse. Police believe the 22 year old mother gave birth to the child at the warehouse and then placed it in the trash can. The woman was arrested and is being preliminarily charged with neglect. Indiana has a safe haven law allowing a parent, relative, family friend or others to give up custody of a baby less than 45 days old to a hospital emergency room, police or fire station.
