TIMES UNION REPORTS – A Claypool woman is facing domestic battery charges after allegedly threatening a man with a knife.
Melissa R. Byers, 48, of 11080 S. CR 100E, Claypool, is charged with domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and domestic battery with bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.
She was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:36 p.m. with an initial bond of $11,000.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday, on July 27, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched in response to a domestic battery. The victim stated he was being chased by Byers with a knife.
Upon arrival, deputies were met by Byers, who stated she and the victim were arguing because she believed the victim had an affair. Byers stated the victim hurt her, so she hurt him.
Deputies asked where the knife was and Byers said she was not sure because she threw it at the victim.
Deputies spoke with the victim who said he thought Byers stabbed him in the back. Deputies observed a bloody spot on his shirt with a puncture hole. The victim lifted his shirt and deputies observed a small puncture wound, according to court documents. The victim pointed out the knife on the fireplace, which had a 10-inch blade.
The victim said he just arrived at the residence after taking his son to Texas. While in Texas, Byers told the victim not to come home. Upon the victim’s arrival to the residence, he said Byers became irate. He said he went toward the stairs to go downstairs. When the victim was downstairs, he alleges Byers threw the knife at him, striking him in the back, according to court documents.
Byers told deputies she believed the victim cheated on her and told him not to return to the residence because she wasn’t sure how she’d react. She said she went after him and followed him in the residence because she was mad.
Byers admitted to threatening the victim with the knife by pointing it at him and telling him he needed to leave.
