Zimmer-Biomet will face the U.S. Supreme Court in a patent infringement case, filed by a rival company. Stryker Corp in Kalamazoo, Michigan is asking for triple the $70 million in damages originally awarded. According to the Journal Gazette, the case involves a hand-held, battery-powered device that Stryker developed to clean surgery wounds. A jury ruled that Zimmer infringed on Stryker's patents by developing a similar device. In its response asking that Stryker's petition be denied, Zimmer supports the Circuit Court's ruling on the willfulness standard and the elimination of increased damages.
